Intensive Outpatient Program(IOP) Philosophy

Addiction is any behavior that gives you temporary relief, temporary pleasure, but in the long-term causes harm, has some negative consequences, and you can’t give it up… From that perspective, you can understand that there are many, many addictions. Yes, there is the addiction to drugs, but there is also the addiction to consumerism, there is the addiction to sex, to the internet, to shopping, to food.” -Dr. Gabor Mate

Tierra Nueva Counseling Center (TNCC) Intensive Outpatient Program helps clients to build a strong foundation for recovery by understanding the personal, social, and political dimensions of substance misuse. TNCC bases its program on the Matrix Model© curriculum, an evidence-based curriculum proven to support recovery. Along with this curriculum, our team integrates Eco-Therapy, art interventions, spiritual discovery, and Liberation Psychology. We also know that trauma and substance misuse are often co-occurring, so we pride ourselves on adapting all parts of our program to be trauma informed and destigmatizing.  We aspire to be an actively welcoming program for people of all backgrounds, sexualities, genders, and body-types, and work to educate ourselves on how our clients lived experiences shape their recovery.

IOP Details:

  • IOP meets three times a week for three-hour sessions, for a minimum of 16 weeks. However, any client is more than welcome to continue beyond the 16-week minimum.
